Colby Staggs is the Administrative Assistant for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Reporting directly to Sheriff Shane Fisher; Mr. Staggs is responsible for the Sheriff’s Office finances, administrative duties, and clerical support.

Mr. Staggs is responsible for the Sheriff’s Office payroll and leave system, purchasing, ledger closeouts, budget management and amendments, maintenance and security of personnel files, reporting of funds received from Circuit, Chancery, and General Sessions Courts, and data entry to multiple contacts. He is also the record custodian, agency SOR contact, and is the Reporting Agency Coordinator.

Mr. Staggs compiles and prepares all necessary monthly reports and documents to be presented to the County Commission, the County Trustee, and to the County Auditor’s Office by the Sheriff’s Office. He is also tasked with other duties as assigned by the Sheriff to ensure the effective operations of the Sheriff’s Office and serves as the Sheriff’s Office workman’s comp representative.

A native of Wayne County, Colby spent his childhood living in the Collinwood area before his family relocated to the Ovilla community of North East Wayne County. Residing in Waynesboro, Mr. Staggs is a graduate of Wayne County High School, Tennessee Correction Academy, and TREES Inc. Mr. Staggs began his career with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office at the age of 18, serving as a jailer in the old Wayne County Jail. He has since worked in juvenile corrections and with the Tennessee Department of Correction prison system where he served in a variety of management positions prior to returning to the Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Staggs serves as a State of Tennessee Notary Public and is also a local historian.
